Agnes R. Proper, 99, of Titusville, passed away on August 12, 2024 at her residence.
Agnes was born August 24, 1924 in Titusville, PA, a daughter of the late Andrew R. and Jessie Wakefield Proper.
She graduated from Colestock High School. She worked for many years in the dietary department of Titusville Hospital. Agnes then took a job at GTE Sylvania where she worked until she retired.
She was preceded in death by all her siblings; Jack Proper and wife Jean, Leah Lewis and husband Barney, Sr., Raymond Proper and wife Eleanor, Edward Proper and Richard Proper.
She is survived by her nephew Frank “Barney” Lewis and wife Carol of Titusville with whom she resided, and her sister- in- law, Genevieve Proper of Evans City, PA, and several nieces and nephews.
When Agnes was 20 years old, her brother-in-law Barney Lewis asked her to live with Leah and help take care of Little Barney until he returned home from the war. He was killed in Germany, so she continued to live with Leah to help take care of Barney. Agnes lived with Leah until her death in December 2009.
Agnes was a life member of St. James Memorial Episcopal Church. She had a strong faith and was a dedicated church worker in her younger years. She was a member of ladies card club in her earlier years and enjoyed gardening, reading, and bird watching in the back yard.
Agnes once told us she had no fear of dying but would miss the parties.
A private graveside service will be conducted for the family.
Memorial contributions can be made to Crawford County Humane Society, Benson Memorial Library, or to St. James Memorial Episcopal Church.
