Arnold R. Fitzgerald

Arnold R. Fitzgerald, 90, of N. Perry Rd., Titusville, went to be with his Lord on Friday, August 4, 2023, at the Titusville Area Hospital.

Arnold was born on November 14, 1932, in Oil City to the late Archie O. and Adelaide Snyder Fitzgerald. He married Phyllis L. Burchfield in 1961 in Meadville.

He was a graduate of Oil City High School. He received his bachelor's degree in education from Clarion State College, a master's degree in education from Penn State University, and a master's degree in library science from Clarion.

Arnold was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army where he worked in Cryptology. While he was stationed in France, he was able to travel all of Europe and tour the places where John Wesley trekked.

He worked as an accountant for a car garage in his earlier years before being hired as a history teacher for the Titusville Area School District. Before his retirement in 1999 he was the librarian and video technologist at the Titusville High School.

He was head librarian at Allegheny Wesleyan College for 18 years and helped them achieve their accreditation.

Arnold was an active member of the Titusville Wesleyan Methodist Church for 61 years where he served as treasurer, Sunday school superintendent, and a member of the Board of Trustees. He was the director of the Oil Valley Food Pantry for 25 years.

He enjoyed music and sang in many weddings and church programs. He loved the outdoors and taking care of the home that he and his wife built.

Arnold is survived by his wife Phyllis of Titusville; one daughter Heather Rand of Titusville; three grandchildren, David Rand of Indiana, PA, Danae Mills and husband Rev. Trevor Mills, of Linesville, and Stephen Rand of Titusville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom, Gerald, and Robert Fitzgerald; and a sister Elaine Renwick.

Visitation will be held at the Titusville Wesleyan Methodist Church 102 E. Spruce St. on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at which time a funeral service will be conducted with Rev. Scott Bennett, officiating.

Interment will be at Union Cemetery.
