Carole Kinnunen Obituary

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Carole Lowe Kinnunen, of New Castle, Pennsylvania, who was born on April 15, 1938, in Barnesboro, PA, to the late James and Helen (Heuther) Lowe. She entered eternal rest on September 20, 2025.

Carole graduated from the Presbyterian School of Nursing in December 1959, earning her Registered Nursing degree. Throughout her career, she cared for others with dedication and compassion, working in a variety of healthcare settings including Grand View Estate and Titusville Area Hospital.

On September 3, 1960, Carole married her beloved husband, Victor J. Kinnunen, with whom she shared a life full of love and devotion until his passing.

Faith and service were at the heart of Carole's life. She was an active member of St. James Memorial Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday School and participated in Cursillo. She served as a Cub Scout den mother, an assistant with the Girl Scouts of America, and a member of the PTA and the Service League of Titusville. For 35 years, Carole also volunteered as the nurse for physicals with Titusville Area Youth Football, caring for generations of young athletes.

Carole was a spirited sports enthusiast who cheered passionately for the Titusville Rockets, the Pitt Panthers, the Allegheny Gators, and her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. She also loved reading, traveling, wine tasting, turtles, cooking, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor J. Kinnunen; her parents, James and Helen Lowe; and her siblings, Nancy (Carl) Beaver and James (Bonnie) Lowe.

Carole is survived by her loving children: Vic Kinnunen (partner Kathy Lawler) and Rebecca Edwards (husband William). She was a devoted grandmother to Alex Edwards (wife Tawni and great-grandson Atlas), Alyssa Edwards (partner Dylan Caldwell), Victor Kinnunen, Reid Kinnunen (spouse Noah Skinner), Martin Kinnunen, and Anthony Kinnunen. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Titusville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium in Sarasota, Florida, or UPMC Family Hospice of Lawrence County.
