Carolyn Mae Bromley, 90 of Pleasantville, went to be with the Lord at 2:30 p.m. surrounded by loving family. Carolyn was born in Mt. Carroll, Illinois on October 12, 1932, to the late Reuben and Hazel Stakemiller Oberheim. She was raised in Illinois where she held numerous jobs throughout and following her high school graduation until joining the military.
Carolyn joined and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Following boot camp at Paris Island, she attended Camp Lejeune Basic Supply School, after which she worked days at the supply depot and nights at the Red Cross Office. Carolyn then transferred to Washington D.C. to work at the Headquarter Marine Corps Navy & Army building in the casualty division, arranging and attending funeral services in Arlington National Cemetery. She served in numerous parades, including the March of The Declaration of Independence from the Library of Congress to the National Archives for permanent placement and in President Eisenhower’s Inauguration Parade.
While in D.C., Carolyn met the love of her life Clarence “Spike” Bromley, and they married on September 25, 1 952, before moving to Titusville to raise their family. Clarence predeceased her on January 29, 2015. Carolyn worked at the Titusville Presbyterian Home and Titusville Hospital as an aide before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was a member of the Titusville First Presbyterian Church. She had many passions throughout her life, including a love for traveling, wintering in Myrtle Beach, listening to country music, playing cards, and cooking and baking for all her family and friends.
Carolyn is survived by five children: Stephen Bromley of Fairbanks, Alaska, Michael Bromley of Pleasantville, Mitchell Bromley and wife Barbara of Titusville, Keith Bromley and wife Beth of Pleasantville, and Penny Gustavson -Fleeger and husband Larry of Butler, PA. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, sisters Donna Ford, Betty Sager, and Linda James of Illinois, in-laws Earl Bromley and wife Nancy of Pleasantville, and Lillian of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, a grandson, and great-granddaughter.
Friends may attend a committal service on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Cranberry, PA. The family asks that memorials be made to the charity of one’s choice.
