Charles “Charlie” H. Kane, 93, of Pleasantville, passed away on the morning of August 29, 2024, at his residence. He was born on June 29, 1931, in Warren, Pa. to the late David and Dorothy Bauer Kane and attended Tidioute schools. Charlie was a veteran of the Korean war where he earned 5 Bronze Stars. After returning home from service in 1952, he began working at Cytemp Specialty Steel company where he was employed for 40 years as a hot roller until his retirement in 1992. In October of 1954, he married the late Carol Sue Kane and raised four children on their farm in Centerville, Pa.
With a contagious laugh and mischievous grin, Charlie had a sense of humor that was unmatched and always came with a quick-witted one liner that could make anyone crack a smile. He was a loyal long-time friend to many, loved to bring joy to all he met, and found great purpose in helping others. Known for being armed with candy and suckers that he was quick to share, he was often seen on the side of the road assisting anyone who needed a hand. He knew every backroad around and put many miles on his infamous Nissan pickups and Subaru Outback in his daily travels – while always needing to know “how many miles are on your car now?”. He enjoyed country music and listening to ‘the Rest of the Story’ from Paul Harvey and chuckling at the twists in the stories while on his drives. Charlie was a lifetime member of the Tidioute VFW and loved to watch westerns knowing many of them by heart. He deeply loved his family and created many unique bonds and memories with each of them that will forever be cherished. Charlie spent more than 60 years farming, something that brought nearly as much joy to his life as being with his family. He loved his cows, the time spent on the farm, and going to the sale barn – something that may have gotten him and the kids that loved to go along in trouble a time or two but all will say it was well worth it. If in the distance you hear ‘Yo, yo, yo’ it is just Charlie calling in the cows or looking for one of his beloved ‘idiots’ to help get them back in the fence one last time.
Charlie is survived by his a son Charles Kane and wife Anne of Pleasantville; two daughters Rhonda Kane and husband Dr. Daniel Taylor of Erie, and Shelly Sampson and husband John of Pleasantville; eleven grandchildren, Adam Kane and wife Maggie, Chad Kane and companion Donna Fluharty, Crystal Sopher and husband Frank, Tami Johnson, Tabetha Johnson, Uriah Sampson and wife Jacqui, Dr. Miranda Ralston and husband Joe, Kris Sampson, Todd Sampson and wife April, Shawn Nichols, Sara Nichols, and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Nichols; a granddaughter, Santana Welker; a great grandson Brantley Sherwood; and siblings: David “Ike” Kane, Gene Kane, Helen Barton-Perry, Hazel McKee, and Betty Littlefield.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 17th from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Titusville Free Methodist Church 42490 State Route 27 Titusville at which time a memorial service will be conducted.
