Charles Whitman Obituary

Charles L. Whitman, 77, of Titusville, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2024 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.


Chuck was born on August 15, 1947 in Grand Valley, a son of the late Harold and Frances Vincent Whitman. He was married to Mary Rapp on September 7, 2014 in Titusville.


Chuck was a graduate of West Forest High School, class of 1966.


He was a veteran having served with the US Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. He entered the service on January 17, 1967 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was honorably discharged on November 5, 1970 at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, WA with the rank of sergeant.


Chuck had been employed at Cytemp Specialty Steel Corp. in Titusville until it's closing. He was employed later with Channellock in Meadville from where he retired. He had also been co-owner of Drusko's Precision Collision for four or five years. Chuck had also delivered the Erie Times paper locally for over 50 years.


Chuck was a member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW, a member of the Elder Statesmen Golf League, and a member of the Senior Bowling League.
He enjoyed playing softball in his earlier years; was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan; and was a dirt track racer locally for a number of years. He enjoyed watching sports, hunting, and working in the garage on trucks and race cars.


Chuck is survived by his wife Mary of Titusville; children, Heather Whitman of New York City, NY and Ryan Whitman and wife Michele of Titusville; a step-daughter, Kristy Baughman and husband Samuel of Falls Creek, PA; grandchildren, Michael Weaver, Brock and Ian Whitman; step- grandchildren, Tyler and Madison Baughman; a great granddaughter, Amelia Weaver; and a brother, Jerry Whitman and wife Connie of Titusville.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Amber Whitman; and a nephew, Jamie Whitman.


Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville, PA 16354 on Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Rev. Tom Barnard, pastor of the Titusville Methodist Church, officiating.


Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with full military rites.
