Obituary

David J. Aul, 93, of Spartansbug, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Corry Memorial Hospital.

Dave was born on February 3, 1930, in Pittsburgh to the late Joseph A. and Margaret Schaffold Aul Sr. He married Mary Darlene Zyks on August 18, 1956, in Pittsburgh.

He was a graduate of St. Mary of the Mount High School in Pittsburgh. Dave was a veteran having served in U.S. Army during the Korean War. He entered the service in 1948 in Pittsburgh and was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal in 1950 at Ft. Meade, MD.

Dave worked for the United States Post Office as a mail carrier in Pittsburgh for 30 years. After retiring from the Post Office, he moved to Spartansburg and operated a dairy farm.

He was a member of the Mageetown Immaculate Conception Church, and Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW.

Dave relished aviation and flew his own airplane for many years. He enjoyed working on his farm, watching Steeler games, fishing at the pond, hunting woodchucks, puttering in his garage, and loved being with his family and friends.

Dave is survived by his wife Mary Darlene of Spartansburg; five children, Jeanie Stuchell and husband Rick of Spartansburg, Kay Yecko of Pittsburgh, Ruth Ann Woods and companion Dave Miller of Pittsburgh, David J. Aul, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Spartansburg, and Tom Aul and wife Melissa of Spartansburg; a daughter in law Roseann "Rosie" Aul of Centerville; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a son, Matthew J. Aul; 2 infant grandchildren; three brothers Joseph A. Aul, Jr., Charles Aul, and Richard Aul.

Visitation will be held at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home Inc. 303 N. Washington St. on Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be conducted on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Christopher Barnes, officiating.

Interment will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery with full military rites being observed.
