David Fitzgerald Obituary

David Allen Fitzgerald of Pleasantville, PA passed away on May 19, 2026, at home in his bed.

Dave was born the middle child to the late Paul Richard and Helen (Wachhaus) Fitzgerald on March 23, 1943, in Erie, PA.

Dave and his ex-wife raised a family starting in Pleasantville, then in Grove City, PA as he worked as the Lead Forester for Hickman Lumber Co. in Emlenton, PA until his retirement. At the time of his death, he was still doing contracting work for Network Forest Products in Waterford, PA. He was scheduled to work the week following his passing.

Knowing he was a humble, yet devout follower of Jesus for the majority of his life, Dave's family and friends celebrate his reunion with his Creator, Savior, and Advocate (though he will be deeply missed here on Earth). Dave's passion for the Lord carried over to his family and found its way into most conversations with friends and strangers alike.

He was also passionate about the land, nature and the outdoors. Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting sports. Always an ardent defender of the Second Amendment, Dave was a life-long member of the NRA (National Rifle Association).

He loved taking his family camping & exploring, boating & waterskiing, and helping a friend or loved one in need of heavy equipment operation. In his younger days, he was a private pilot and member for the AOPA (Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association). Later, he found the thrill of motorcycling to replace flying.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his older brother, Thomas Paul Fitzgerald earlier this year in Texas. Dave is survived by his younger sister, Marianna Ruth Fitzgerald in Michigan and by his three loving and proud sons, Shawn Michael Fitzgerald of Noblesville, IN; Duane David Fitzgerald of Lowell, MI; and Paul Ryan Fitzgerald of Albion, PA. He leaves behind two grandsons, Liam Michael Fitzgerald & Samuel Finnegan Fitzgerald; and two granddaughters, Shae Gabriel Fitzgerald & Clare Michael Fitzgerald; as well as two nieces and two nephews.

Dave also leaves behind his 'adopted family,' the Schaffner family (too extensive to list individually) of Pleasantville, PA. Jim & Charlotte Schaffner, being two of his oldest, dearest friends helped Dave through a difficult stage of life, finding themselves in a never-ending competition with him to "return the favor."

At the family's request no service is planned at this time. A Celebration of Life to be announced in the near future.
