After he was honorably discharged in 1961, he returned home and began teaching World Cultures and coaching football at Titusville Area Schools. He taught for over 32 years and retired in June of 1993, but always remained active in the community with youth football and announcing the high school games.

"Doc" was a longtime member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Titusville and a member of the Elks lodge No. 264.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and generally being outdoors. You could also find Dave tending to his vegetable garden, woodworking, and making toys for his grandchildren.
