Dawn Marie (McAvoy) Sampson, 51, of Titusville, Cherrytree Township, died at home early Monday morning, April 13, 2026, surrounded by family.
She was born in Oil City on September 16, 1974, to the late Michael Davis and late Helen (Hutchinson) McAvoy, later adopted and raised by the late James McAvoy.
Dawn attended Utica Elementary, Franklin Jr and Sr High School, and the Red Rock Job Corps Center in Lopez, PA, where she got her GED. There, she met the love of her life, Charles Sampson, who survives. They married on February 25, 1995, at Wolf Creek Community Baptist Church in Wolf Creek, WV.
She was devoted to living out her faith in Jesus and helping others. She was a member of the Titusville Free Methodist Church in Titusville, PA. She served on the worship team. She was active in her community, working with the youth and with the Cherry Tree Township Volunteer Fire Department. She cherished time spent with her kids, grandkids, family, and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Dawn was a shift-lead manager at Taco Bell in Titusville, PA.
Along with her husband, she is survived by two children: Stacey (Sampson) Armstrong (30) and her husband, Austin Armstrong of Cherrytree Twp, PA, and James Sampson (28), married to Ariel Sampson, of Rouseville, PA, and five grandchildren: Amber Page, Austin Armstrong Jr., Sarah Armstrong, Lila Sampson, and Liviya Sampson.
Dawn is also survived by two older brothers: Michael McAvoy and his wife Marne of Punta Gorda, FL, Adam "AJ" McAvoy and his wife Shelly of Willow Creek, PA, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, her father-in-law Charles Sampson Sr., and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Joyce Sampson, and her brother-in-law, David Kincaid.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, April 18, at 2:00 p.m. at the Titusville Free Methodist Church, 42490 Rte. 27 in Titusville, with a luncheon to follow. Pastor Tim Maybray will be officiating.
Her body was donated to cancer research.
