Edward Ellsworth “Butch” Coates, 80, of Pleasantville, passed away Friday evening December 1, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie.
Butch was born on July 24, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Rudolph and Stella Sutton Coates.
He was a graduate of the Bethel Park Senior High School in Bethel Park, PA.
Butch was a veteran having served in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.
He was self-employed most of his working career as an independent contractor. In retirement Butch worked part time at the Baillie Titusville facility.
Butch was a life member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW in Titusville and a life member of the Yugoslav Educational Entertaining Home in Bethel Park, PA. He enjoyed bowling, softball and volleyball in his earlier years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and the outdoors in general. Ed was an avid Steelers fan. He was a season ticket holder during the 1970s and enjoyed tailgating with friends and family before home games. He attended all four 1970s Super Bowls.
Butch is survived by his children, Daniel Coates and his wife Elizabeth, Brenda Morrow and her husband Scott, all of Pleasantville; grandchildren, Nastasha Coates-Ceresa and husband Michael, Joshua and wife Krista, Melissa and Tristan; numerous great grandchildren; a brother, Rudolph “Buddy” Coates of Bethel Park, PA; and three nieces, Dawn, Billie Jo and Nancy Ann.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville, PA 16354 on Friday, December 8th from 12:30 to 2:30 PM at which time the funeral service will be conducted.
Interment will be in Neilltown Cemetery.
