Edward W. Wakefield, 75, of Titusville, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, at his residence following an extended illness.
Ed was born on July 26, 1948, in Titusville to the late Theodore "Ted" Wakefield and Virginia M. Hicks Bishop. He married Penny L. Gilson in December of 1972. She preceded him in death on February 11, 2007. He married Karen Spence Cleland on May 25, 2013, in Titusville.
He was a graduate of Titusville High School, Class of 1966.
Ed was a veteran having served in the United State Marine Corps, serving two tours in the Vietnam war. He entered the service on September 28, 1966, in Cleveland and was honorable discharged on September 27, 1970, at Cherry Point, NC.
He worked at Cytemp Specialty Steel Corp. for many years until his retirement in 1994.
Ed was a member of Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW, the Titusville Moose Lodge, and the Gold Prospectors Association of America.
Ed was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who always showed love and care to his family. Beyond his roles within his family, Ed was also an enthusiastic outdoorsman. He found joy in hunting, fishing, and hiking. Prospecting for gold was another passion of Ed's, fueling his adventurous spirit for exploring the great outdoors. In his spare time, he could be found tending to his garden or listening to his favorite band, the Grateful Dead.
Ed is survived by his wife Karen of Titusville; his son Everett Wakefield of Titusville; his daughter, Dawn Rumbaugh and husband Brad of Pleasantville seven grandchildren, Joey, Jena, and Jewel Wakefield, and Jasmine Alley and Karlee Rumbaugh all of Pleasantville, and Hunter and Brooke Hepler of Titusville; three step-children, Bradley Proper of Erie, Tara Hepler and husband Dean of Titusville, Mark Cleland of Titusville; his siblings, Terry Wakefield and wife Bonnie of Titusville, Theodore "Ted" Wakefield and wife Gail of Grand Valley Delilah Wakefield of Titusville, Cynthia Wakefield, Scott Wakefield, Kenneth Wakefield all of Titusville, Robert Bishop and husband Wayne of Phoenix, AZ, and Rhea Webster of Washington D.C.; a sister-in-law Rhetha Wakefield of Centerville; and a brother-in-law Ronnie Thompson and wife Robin of Titusville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Timothy Wakefield; and a brother William Wakefield.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
