Elaine was a graduate of Colestock High School (now Titusville High School), class of 1945. She recalled graduating at the age of 15, which made her the youngest graduate at that time. She taught a year at White Oak School before returning to Indiana Normal School for additional training. She then taught at the Trimm Corners School before entering Scarritt College of Nashville, TN. She earned her B.A. in 1951 and her M.A. in Christian Education in 1952. She went on to work in Jamestown, NY and Xenia and Toledo, OH.

Elaine met and married Richard Eugene Lydick while in Toledo, OH. He preceded her in death on September 8, 2003. They have one daughter, Faith, who resides in Pleasantville with her family.

Elaine was employed with the Titusville Area School District as a teacher at Main Street School for 34 years until her retirement in 1997. She taught 3rd and then 2nd grade loving each of her students dearly. She was a member of the Pleasantville United Methodist Church, and enjoyed gardening, bird watching, genealogy, and especially reading.

Elaine is survived by her immediate family - daughter, Faith Thompson and husband, William of Pleasantville; grandchildren Sara Zinram and husband David of Pleasantville, Liam Thompson, Jadyn Thompson, Piper Thompson, and Ben Thompson.
