Frederick L. "Fred" Bloom, Jr., 82, of Titusville, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at UPMC Northwest after an extended illness.
Fred was born in Titusville on July 12, 1942, to the late Frederick L. and Eleanor Bloom. He married Joyce Nelson on July 24, 1965, at Pleasantville.
He was a graduate of Titusville High School, Class 1960. Upon graduation, Fred joined the US Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. He played basketball for Army and was able to travel throughout Western Europe.
Fred worked as a machinist at National Forge in Warren for almost 40 years. After his retirement in 2002, he worked for the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home Inc., where he was much valued.
He was a member of Pleasantville Community Church, Titusville Area Youth Football Board, Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW, Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion, BPO Elks #264, and Moose Lodge 84.
Fred enjoyed life. For many years, he was an umpire for local softball leagues and a referee for Y-league basketball games, making lifelong friends along the way. He also enjoyed traveling yearly with his son Kent to Hershey for the PIAA State Basketball championships. Sports gave him a great deal of joy throughout his life, and as a diehard Browns fan, he particularly appreciated good-natured banter with Steeler fans.
He is survived by his wife Joyce of Titusville; his son Kent Bloom of Seven Fields, PA; his sisters Carol Weaver and husband Tom of Titusville and Charlotte Cherry and husband Craig of Titusville; his Goddaughter Amy Stewart and husband Grant Elizabethtown, PA; several nieces and nephews, and close friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Bloom.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home Inc., 303 N. Washington St., Titusville. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Pleasantville Community Church, with Shawn Jacobson officiating. Full military rites will be observed.

Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
