Gayle Richard Butcher

Gayle R. Butcher, 86, of Zelienople, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at UPMC Passavant after a short illness.

Gayle was born on March 14, 1938, in Grand Valley to the late Herbert W. and Florence Vincent Butcher. He married Saundra Peeples on October 17, 1964, at the Titusville First United Methodist Church.

Gayle was a graduate of Pleasantville High School.

He was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy.

Gayle worked in the engineering dept. for AVTEX Fibers in Meadville, and Specialty Yarns in Lewiston, PA, until the plants' closing. He later worked in maintenance at JC Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntington, PA, until his retirement.

He was a former member of the Titusville First United Methodist Church, Methodist Men Group, Green Acres Golf League, and Bowling Leagues at Lin Van Lane.

He enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years, hunting, fishing, watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, attending the Butcher family reunion, and keeping in touch with all of his extended family.

Gayle is survived by his wife Saundra of Warrendale; two sons, Bradley Butcher and wife Holly of Zelienople, and Peter Butcher and wife Kristine of Wexford; five grandchildren, Piper Butcher of Evans City, Ella Butcher of Zelienople, Aidan Butcher, Gavin Butcher, Ainsleigh Butcher all of Wexford; a sister-in-law Sonja Peeples of Pleasantville; a special niece Kim Preston of Pleasantville; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, H. Paul and R.V. "Jake" Butcher; and three sisters, M. Faye Butcher Hoepfl Keyes, Beverly Ann Anderson, and Barbara Panas.

Visitation will be held at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home Inc., 303 N. Washington St. Titusville, on Monday, June 17th from 11 am to 1 pm, at which time a funeral service will be conducted with pastor David Bordy, officiating.

Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Pleasantville.
