Gerald R. "Jerry" Shaffer, 79, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025, following a short illness.
Jerry was born on January 25, 1946, in Titusville to the late Oren C. and Marjorie Crawford Shaffer.
Jerry was a graduate of Titusville High School, Class of 1963.
He was a United States Air Force veteran during the Vietnam War. He entered the service on October 25, 1965, and was honorably discharged on August 28, 1969, at Lackland Airforce Base with the rank of Sergeant. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Jerry worked as a forklift operator for Cytemp Specialty Steel Corp. until the plants' closure. He later worked for Titusville Area School District until his retirement in 2021.
He was a member and past commander of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW and the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion. He was a member of the Moose Family Center 84 and the former Titusville PNA.
He was a passionate Cleveland Browns fan, known for his great sense of humor and the smile that was always present on his face. He loved spending time outdoors in nature, playing scratch-off lottery tickets, and cherished moments with family and friends, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He also loved his dogs, Meatball, Pierogi, and Walter, the guard cat.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Carol of Titusville; his daughter, Julie Kunselman (T. Lee); a son, Gerald Russell Schneider; his children by another father, John Biddle (Amy), Donald Biddle, Sr. (Carol), Daniel Biddle (Becky), Julie Master (Larry), Matthew Dewey (Tammy), Susan Hutton, and Audrea Davenport (Doug); 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his brother Larry Shaffer (Melissa); and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberley Shaffer Brown; a granddaughter, Christina Hutton; a daughter-in-law, Debra Biddle; a sister, Carol June Shaffer; and a brother, Harold Bruce Shaffer.
No services are being observed at this time. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
