Grace Ellen Lang, 91, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Piper Assisted Living after a long and fulfilling life.
Grace was born in Colombus, Ohio, July 11, 1933, to Russell and Mary Ellen Miller and grew up on the Miller family farm in Sunbury, Ohio. Grace attended elementary, junior high and high school, graduating from Big Walnut High School in 1951 in Sunbury, Ohio.
She went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Ohio State University. During her time at OSU, she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and graduated in 1955. Grace went on to earn her Masters in Education, from Western Michigan University in 1972 and her Phd. from Kansas State University in 1987. While at Ohio State she met the love of her life, Charlie Lang. The two would eventually get married on June 12, 1955. They would be married until Nov. 7, 2013, when Charlie passed away.
Grace was there for all three of her children. John, when he suffered a horrific automobile accident in the late 1980s, helping him get back on his feet. Sue, when her husband was deployed to help keep three young granddaughters entertained. And Bill, navigating through life with just a ‘gentle nudge’ of wisdom from time to time.
From the early 1970s until their “official” retirement in 1993, Grace worked as an extension agent in the states of Michigan, Kansas and New Jersey. She specialized in the Extension Food and Nutrition and Education Program (EFNEP).
Grace was preceded in death by Charlie and her parents, Mary Ellen and Russell.
Grace and Charlie have three adult children who survive them. John (Carol) Lang of Columbus, Ohio, Bill (Barb) Lang of Olathe, Kan. and Sue (Chuck) Eberth of Basehor, Kan. And four grandchildren, Katie Eberth of New Lenox, Illinois; Casey (Dylan) Schmidt of St. Louis, Missouri; Amy (Brian) Frank of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Adam Lang of Lawrence, Kansas. Also, two step-grandchildren, Matt (Ashley) Fulk and Morgan (Brian) Seibold, both of Olathe, Kansas. And five great-grandchildren; Danni, Matt Jr., Rae, Beckett and Eloise.
In their “official” retirement Grace and Charlie landed in Titusville, Pennsylvania, Grace would find numerous projects to work on in the house and within the small northwest Pennsylvania town. Including teaching adults how to read for the first time and helping with the Titusville Gardening Club. She and Charlie even found time to help the Pennsylvania State 4-H Department with exchange programs between the state and Japan. They also found time to travel, crisscrossing the United States and the world with stops in Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, England and Ireland.
