Helga Gertrud Ruth (nee Prior) passed away peacefully at the Titusville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on May 2, 2026 at the age of 82.
Helga was born on March 8th, 1944, in Gleisweiler, Germany. She was raised in Offenbach, Germany.
As a child her mom often described her as a feisty kid, always playing tricks, making people laugh. She attended secretarial school but never used those skills professionally. Like so many German women of her generation, she married an American soldier and moved to the US in the 1960s. For 30 years she was a homemaker and a caring mother to her 5 children. Later she worked as a personal care giver at the Presbyterian Home in Titusville and provided in home care to the terminally ill and elderly. She spent most of her adult life in northwestern PA (Tionesta, Titusville, West Hickory).
For those who knew her, Helga was also a feisty adult. She loved to laugh, make people laugh and have a good time on occasion. She loved Elvis. As a teenager she once snuck out of the house, biked 20 miles in hopes of catching a glimpse of him while he was stationed in Friedberg, Germany, unfortunately in vain. She loved music, especially 80's music, and keeping up with both US and European popular culture. She liked following "the Royals". She surprisingly (being German) liked American light beer. She once joked 10 was her limit!
For those who knew her, Helga was also a kind and generous person, often putting the needs of others first. She was a natural personal care giver. She was always willing to help a family member or friend in need. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She will be missed.
She is survived by her 5 children, son Jim Ruth of Titusville, son John Ruth and his wife Missy of West Hickory, daughter Ruth Winters and her husband Luke of Milwaukee WI, daughter Heidi Ruth of Titusville, and son Galey Ruth and his partner Brea of Pleasantville; and her 6 grandchildren Erika Ruth, Heike Ruth, Amber Ruth, Chelsy Ruth, Haley Atkins, and Jarvis Atkins as well as several great grandchildren. She is also surveyed by a step brother, Klaus Prior and his wife Gabi of Bielefeld, Germany.
She is preceded in death by her mother Anni Mueller, of Muehlheim, Germany and father Kurt Prior of Bielefeld, Germany.
No public services will be observed. Inurnment will be at West Hickory Cemetery.
Many thanks to the caring staff at the Titusville Nursing and Rehabilitation center for their support over these last few years.
