James P. "Jim" L'Huillier, 92, of Titusville, PA, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at the Oil City Healthcare & Rehab Center.
Born on December 10, 1930 in Titusville, Jim was the son of the late Joseph & Dorothy (Reid) L'Huillier. He graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Titusville and began working for Cyclops Specialty Steel Corporation. Jim met the love of his life, Donna Guild, and were married on February 7, 1952. Shortly after being married, Jim was called to serve in the Korean War, where he proudly served as a First Line Heavy Machine Gunner. During the war, Jim was honored with 3 Bronze Stars and a National Defense Service Medal. After serving in the war, Jim returned home to Donna and went back to work at Cyclops. They bought a house, where they raised their four children and remained in the same house together, for over 72 years. Jim was very proud of his yard and kept it immaculate. He was a true patriot who loved his country and flew the American flag every day.
Jim was a devout Catholic where he attended and was involved at St. Titus Catholic Church. Jim retired from Cyclops after 42 years of working as a power shear operator. He also painted barns at Windy Hill Farms and owned a golf club repair shop. For several years, Jim voluntarily maintained the flower bed at the stone memorial of John Heisman at the Middle School.
Over the years, Jim and Donna enjoyed raising their four children and being involved in their various athletic events and traveling to visit them when they moved away. They also enjoyed playing golf at local courses and many courses between home and Myrtle Beach, SC, where they traveled with close friends.
In his earlier years, Jim managed youth boxing at "Beech Stadium" on the South Side and was a little league baseball coach with Daisy Cambell kids. He played in many local golf and baseball leagues where he won several trophies. Jim liked to hunt and fish and was an active member of the Senior Center until he was 90 years old. He was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Jim was quite the handy man - if something was broken - he figured out a way to fix it. A favorite pastime, especially as he got older, was hanging out with friends and neighbors. He had a great sense of humor and always had a good story to share.
Jim is survived by his wife and best friend, Donna L'Huillier of Titusville; his sister, Eleanor Orr of Titusville; a daughter, Diane L'Huillier-Favret and husband Peter of Hagerstown, MD; sons, Brian and Thomas L'Huillier of Titusville. Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Theresa Bennett and son, Randall L'Huillier.
Jim has eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted for family and friends at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N Washington St., Titusville, PA 16354 on Saturday, August 26th at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Joe Campasino officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW, 206 St. John St., Titusville, PA 16354. Jim's family wishes to extend a heartfelt thak you to the nurses and staff at the Oil City Heathcare & Rehab Center for providing him with loving, wonderful care.
