John Richard Kanyuck, 84, of Centerville, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, at his residence following an extended illness.
John was born in Cleveland, OH, on May 13, 1941, to the late John A. and Mary Kasavich Kanyuck. He married Catherine "Katie" Spratt on December 11, 1962, in Hydetown.
He was a graduate of Townville High School, Class of 1959. He was a veteran having served in the US Navy. He served as an electrician in Norfolk, VA, aboard the USS Vulcan.
John co-owned and operated Cox and Kanyuck Electric for 25 years before retiring.
He attended several local churches and had a strong relationship with Jesus.
He was a lifetime member of the Saegertown Sportsman's Club, the NRA, and the Tidioute Bucktail Gun Club.
John enjoyed skeet and trap shooting, competing in handgun shoots, archery hunting with his longbow, fishing—particularly for steelhead—and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Katie of Centerville; his sister, Joyce Berlin and husband Ran of Diamond; close friend Adam Miller and wife Erica of Townville and their children, Natalie, Kendra, Kelsey, and Lindsey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Smith.
Visitation will be held at Lyona Bible Church, 28825 Lyona Rd. Guys Mills, PA 16327 on Sunday, August 17th, from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted there on Monday at 10 a.m. with pastor Michael Fraser and pastor Jerry Burns, officiating.
Interment will be at Troy Center Cemetery.
