John Robert Papotnik, 82, of Centerville, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 21, 2024 at his residence.
John was born on April 5, 1942 in Union City, PA, a son of the late John Joseph Papotnik and Betty Mae Bickerstaff Papotnik. He was married to Dianna Kaster on June 30, 1962 in Rootville.
John was a graduate of Townville High School, class of 1960. In his earlier years, John had worked for A. Shreve and Son. He had also been an independent contractor as well as owning the former Bob and Diane’s Discount Store in Lincolnville. He was the owner of J.R. & Son Building Supply in Centerville for over 38 years.
John enjoyed farming, camping and riding his motorcycle. He was instrumental with several friends in the founding of “The Raiders” band from the 1960’s through the 1980’s.
John is survived by his wife Dianna of Centerville; children, Gina Thomas and husband Norm of Centerville, Brenda Rogers and husband Steve of Union City, Tammy Nugen of Tucson, AZ, Ginger Sabot and husband Dennis of Pittsburgh, Sheila Roberson and husband Jimmy of Centerville, and John Robert “Rob” Papotnik of Lincolnville; four grandchildren, Jamey and Hailey Sabot of Pittsburgh, Mark Rogers and wife Chelsie of Union City, and Colton Nugen of Tucson, AZ; great grandchildren, Warren Keyes and Weston Rogers; a brother, Larry Papotnik and wife Linda of Mount Crawford, VA; a sister-in-law, Francine Papotnik of Union City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by an infant great grandson, Walker Rogers; and a brother, Francis Papotnik.
No public visitation will be observed. A private funeral service for the family will be conducted at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville, PA 16354.
The family asks that memorials be made to the Bloomfield Township Volunteer Fire Department.
