Kevin D. McGowan

On Tuesday morning, November 5th, 2024, Green Acre’s Golf Course lost their greatest short drive champion, Kevin D. McGowan, 69, of Titusville. Kevin passed away following a brief illness.

Born on July 16, 1955, in Franklin, PA, a son of the late Bob and Maxine Check McGowan. Kevin was a graduate of Randolph High School, class of 1973.

Self-employed, partially retired, and a full-time high handicapped golfer, Kevin operated his own farm for many years where he raised anything with four legs. He was more than an avid golfer. He often played in the Green Acres Tuesday night league, Thursday night men's day at Meadville Country Club, plus Friday, Saturday, Sunday and the other days ending in Y. Not much stopped him from making it to the golf course either, often times showing up in farm clothes, driving a tilt bed truck or bargain vehicle.

Additionally, he was a social member of both the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW and of the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion, where his cackled laugh could be heard from far across the bar. An outdoorsman, Kevin enjoyed hunting, trapping and keeping pets of all sorts. Always shamelessly himself, Kevin will be missed by many.

Survived by his children, twin boys Ben and Brandin, and daughter, Tracy; grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia, Sofia and Cooper. Kevin grew up with brothers Bob, Jerry, Dan, Tom, Marty and sister Kim. He also enjoyed getting to know his Smalley family members and later, his sister Mary Ann.

A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held at the Titusville American Legion, Saturday, November 16th at 1 pm.
