Lawrence Waychoff Obituary

Lawrence E "Larry" Waychoff, 80, of Pleasantville, passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 24, 2024, at The Caring Place in Franklin after an extended illness.

He was born in Titusville on August 18, 1944 to the late John D and Evelyn Slayton Waychoff. He was one of twelve children. He married Judith Collins on September 9, 1988, in Winchester VA.

He was a graduate of Titusville High School, Class of '62.

Larry was employed by Cyclops Steel from 1964 until the shop closed down in 1993. He then managed the PNA Club in Titusville for fourteen years. He spent a number of years working part time at Pleasantville Hardware and then served in the maintenance department for the Titusville Area School District until he finally retired.

Larry was a member of the Shamburg Church of God. He enjoyed being a volunteer with the Over-the-Hill Gang, taking care of the hiking trails at Drake Well Park. He was very involved with Big Brothers/Sisters, mentoring two young boys for several years. He spent a total of 30 years as a volunteer fireman with Cherrytree and Pleasantville. He was also an EMT/Instructor with Pleasantville for 19 years. He was a former member of the Elder Statesman Golf League.

His passion in life was hunting, and oh, the stories he would tell. He always felt fortunate to have been able to go on several hunting trips during his life including Montana, Colorado, Ohio, West Virginia, New York, Quebec and Manitoba.
Some of his happiest times were spent outdoors in the woods with nature.
He was an avid fan of Titusville High Schools sports. He rarely missed a football game or wrestling match. After his retirement, he and his wife were able to spend their winters in Florida.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Judy, of Pleasantville; a son, Lawrence "Sonny" Jr of Arizona, a daughter, Kelly Accardi (Steve) of Virginia, grandchildren Erik, Evie and Cooper Tsow of Virginia, a step-son, Steven R. "Rob" Wig (Melissa) of New York, step grandsons Steven, Lucas, and Jacob (Isabella) Wig and great granddaughters, Sophia and Brynn, all of New York.
Also surviving are sisters: Pauline Baumgardner of Youngsville, Vickie Garfield and Debbie Coulter (Dave) of Titusville, and a sister in law, Peggy Collins of Rouseville. He's also survived by his best friend and hunting buddy, Don Owens of Pittsfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John, Ronald, Richard and Robert Waychoff and sisters Patsy Waychoff, who died in infancy, Louise Waychoff, Marian Prenatt and Nancy Bierce.

Larry's wishes were to be cremated with a memorial service only, which will be held at a later date.

Interment will be at Neiltown Cemetery.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to The Caring Place for the kindness and compassion shown to Larry while he was a resident there. Everyone from administration, to staff, dietary, housekeeping, laundry and maintenance are to be commended.
