Marie Rita Homer went home to be with her lifelong friend, Jesus on September 28, 2024.
Rita was born on May 21, 1924, in Titusville to the late Henry R. and Anna L'Huillier Ruot. She married Edward W. Homer on January 19, 1945, in Kansas City, MO. He preceded her in death on May 15, 2005.
She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy, Class of 1943.
She worked at Sharps Convalescent Home in Pleasantville and Colleges Catering Service in Pleasantville. But her most loved job was driving school buses for West Forest School District. She was firm but kind, and she loved all the kids. Rita also worked and volunteered for the American Red Cross, Love INC., and Associated Charities.
Rita was an active member of St. Walburga's and St. Titus Catholic Church, where she dedicated her time as a Eucharistic Minister, lent her voice to the choir, the rosary society, Bible study, prayer chain, and served on the Parish council.
She enjoyed playing cards and going out for breakfast with her family. She touched the hearts of all those she met, even in the hospital when she was in pain. She had a great sense of humor, which will be missed by her family and friends. During her long, dear life, the Lord spoke through her in many ways to the people around her.
She is survived by a son, John M. Homer and wife Susan of Titusville; three daughters, Lorraine K. Baker and husband Brian of Titusville, Denise J. Goodwin and husband Michael of Leighton, PA, and Michelle L. Fitzgerald and husband Ray of Brookeville; twelve grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and eighteen great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rita was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Charles, and Francis Ruot; and great-granddaughter, Braelynn Eldred
Visitation will be held at St. Titus Church on Tuesday, October 1st, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., at which time a mass of Christian burial will be conducted with Fr. Daniel Hoffman, officiating.
Interment will be at St. Walburga Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Titus Church, 513 W. Main St., Titusville, PA 16354.
