Mary Madden Obituary

Mary “Lynda” Ricke Madden, 78, of Charleston, SC, formerly of Titusville, Pennsylvania, passed away Monday morning February 12, 2024 at her home in Charleston South Carolina, surrounded by her family.

Lynda was born on January 4, 1946 in Titusville, PA, a daughter of the late Roger and Mary “Polly” Girard Ricke.

Lynda graduated from Colestock High School, Titusville Pennsylvania, class of 1963. She also was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh Titusville earning her Bachelor of Science degree.

Lynda possessed a fierce work ethic, always working, striving for education and knowledge. Food and Beverage management took her to Cross Creek Resort in Titusville, Pennsylvania for many years. When Lynda settled in Charleston, she began working at the Charleston Air Force Base Club, and enjoyed serving those that protect and serve this country. Her love for the judicial system brought her to a career as a paralegal, working hard to become a nationally Certified Paralegal. Her family and friends relied on her expertise in the legal field for years.

Lynda was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, promoting education and volunteerism.

Lynda loved working as a Realtor in the State of South Carolina, helping families find their forever homes in the state that she loved, South Carolina.

Lynda had a special connection with horses, which began when she was a little girl, growing up in Pennsylvania. Her last horse, Scarly Simon, was a winning flat track thoroughbred. Scarly Simon foaled Southern Admiral “Beau”, (in the backyard…great story) who followed in the steps of his mother, winning several flat track races. After several years of training and racing at smaller tracks, Lynda and Jeff took a chance and proudly entered Beau in the prestigious Charleston Cup Steeplechase, where Southern Admiral took first place.

Lynda is survived by her son, Jeffrey Madden and wife Tracy of Charleston, SC with whom she made her home; grandchildren, Ashley Brewington (husband Cole Brewington), Katherine Madden, Kevin Madden, and Kelly Madden. Ashley blessed Lynda with two great-grandchildren, Colin Frost, and Nora Brewington. Lynda was loved by her great Uncle Hamilton Girard, two brothers, Roger Clark Ricke, Jr. and wife Patricia, Steven Ricke and wife Shelly, all of Tampa, FLA; a sister, Rosalyn Parker of Titusville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lynda was preceded in death by Jerry Madden, nephew Jamie Parker and niece Julie Parker Hazeltine.

Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville, PA 16354 on Friday, February 16th from noon to 2:00 PM at which time the funeral service will be conducted.
