Raymond Smith Obituary

Raymond L. Smith, 78, of Lewis, DE, passed away Monday evening September 2, 2024 at his home following an extended illness.

Ray was born on August 17, 1946 in Titusville, PA, a son of the late Eugene and Frances McNellie Smith.

Ray was a graduate of Colestock High School.

Ray was a veteran having served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. He entered the service on December 13, 1965 in Pittsburgh, PA and was honorably discharged on February 28, 1969 at McGuire Air Force Base, NJ with the rank of sergeant.

He had been employed with Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia for over 30 years from where he retired.

Ray enjoyed traveling, going on cruises, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by a brother, Eugene C. Smith, Jr. of Fuquay-Varina, NC; a sister, Bonnie Pierce of Titusville; his dear friend and caregiver, Kyle Spese of Lewes, DE; a dear friend, Carletta Longo of Glendora, NJ; nieces, Marcella Carson and husband Mark of Titusville, Roberta Booth of Titusville, and Michelle York and husband Paul of Fuquay-Varina, NC; and a nephew, James Smith and wife Amy of Norcross, GA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, C. Craig Smith; and a sister-in-law, Esther Smith.

Family and friends may attend the service on Tuesday, September 10th at 11:00 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery chapel at which time full military honors will be conducted by the local veteran organizations.

A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at a later date.
