Richard Skinner Obituary

Richard E. "Dick" Skinner, 81, of Titusville went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at his residence following an extended illness.

Dick was born in Titusville on August 10, 1942, to the late Edwin "Ken" and Anna E. (Miller) Skinner. He married Karen Anderson on November 16, 1963, at the Plumer Presbyterian Church. Dick and Karen were blessed to be happily married for 60 years.

He was a graduate of Titusville High School, Class of 1960. Upon graduation, Dick served in the United States Army, and spent 30 months in Germany.

He worked as an electrician at Cytemp Specialty Steel until the plant's closing and for Franklin Steel until his retirement. He also worked at the Titusville Area Hospital and the Titusville Free Methodist church.

In his youth, Dick was a bit of a "hellraiser," but developing a closer relationship to his Lord changed his focus. His focus on Christ became even more clearly defined 27 years ago when he joined local Promise Keepers at the Million Man March in Washington, DC, in 1997. Dick always put his family first and loved spending time with them all. He felt very blessed to be a part of the Anderson Clan and formed a close alliance with his sisters and brothers-in-law. Joe and Cora, Karen's parents, were lovingly referred to as Dad and Mom.

Dick gave of his time to any that needed it, particularly enjoying mission trips in Florida with friends that saw a variety of projects completed. He and Karen also gave of their time serving in different capacities with a homeless shelter. He was encouraging, loving, and a good friend, with a ready laugh and a good sense of humor. He enjoyed woodworking, with he and Karen making it into a business in the '80's and '90's. Many in the area have Christmas tree ornaments made by them.

Dick very much enjoyed golfing, introducing several members of the family into the life-time activity, and was a big Ohio State fan. Dick also introduced his children and seven grandchildren to hunting and fishing, creating wonderful memories for all of them, along with his brother-in-law and close friend, Keith Warner. A favorite memory was Dad taking a day of vacation to spend with each of his kids - one at a time - to fish. Some fish were caught, but the conversation and time together was the real catch.

Dick is survived by his wife, Karen of Titusville; three children, Julie Daugherty, and husband Jim of Titusville; Laurie White, and husband Carl of Rossiter, PA; and Rick Skinner, and wife Tricia, of Titusville. He was the very proud grandpa of 7: Justin Daugherty, and wife Breanne of Girard; Shannon Daugherty of Colorado Springs, CO; Cameron Daugherty, and wife Danielle of North East; Adam White, and wife Robin of Pikeville, KY; Seth White of Spokane WA; Kai Skinner, and wife Brooke of Centerville, and Cade Skinner, and partner Emily Harrison of Slippery Rock; three great-grandchildren: Oliver, Elaina, and Norah; and sisters-in-law Gwen Grinstead, Ginny Kerr, and Velma Koebley and brother-in-law, Don Koebley; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Adeline Mae Daugherty, and special in-laws Joe and Cora Anderson.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 17th at 1:00p.m. at the Titusville Free Methodist Church (T-Free Church) with Rev. Tim Maybray, officiating.

Interment will be at the Jamison Corner's Cemetery.
