Robert M. "Bob" Showers, 88, of Titusville, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at his residence following an extended illness.
Bob was born in Cleveland, OH, on October 23, 1935, to the late Martin and Belle Galbraith Showers. He married Grace Jones on June 6, 1975, in Titusville.
He was a graduate of Spartansburg High School.
Bob proudly served in the United States Army, training as a tank operator in Germany before serving admirably in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from his reserve unit on January 31, 1965.
He worked Polk Center for many years and retired as chief of security.
Bob was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Masonic Lodge 316 F&A.M, Oil City Lodge of Perfection and the New Castle Consistory. He was a member of the Erie Zem Zem Shriner, past commander of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW, the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion, Titusville Elks Lodge #264, Moose 84 Lodge, and the former Titusville PNA and Eagles Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, going on cruises with his wife, and being with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Grace, of Titusville; two son, Robert J. Showers and wife Kimberly, of Conneaut, OH, and Robert Kaid and wife Ginnette of Utah; three granddaughters, Natasha Showers of Conneaut, OH, Marcedez Showers of Dorset, OH, and Alexis Stock of Bucyrus, OH; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Brian Showers; a brother, James G. Showers, and a sister, Jeanette Van Valkenburg.
Visitation will be held at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home Inc., 303 N. Washington St. Titusville, on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at which time a funeral service will be conducted with Charlie Castelluccio officiating. Full military rites will be observed.
Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery.
