William S. "Bill" Blood, Sr. 99, of Titusville, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Southwoods Assisted Living Community.
Bill was born on December 10, 1924, in Rome, NY, to the late Lyle and Kathleen Blood.
He graduated from Ithaca College in 1948. He was employed by the Titusville Area School District for 41 years as a health and physical education teacher and athletic director.
Bill helped start the wrestling program at the high school. He was also influential in starting girls swimming and girls track for the school. He coached football and wrestling for many years.
He was inducted into the Titusville High School Sports Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Bill loved to play golf and travel, and it wasn't unusual to see him early in the morning briskly walking around Titusville. For many years, he taught children how to swim at Burgess Park. He was a talented woodworker and spent many hours creating and building in his woodshop. Bill always enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends.
He was an active member of Titusville First United Methodist Church and served on the board of directors for Titusville Area Youth Football.
He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Thelma; daughters Brenda Stearns (Dave), Barbara Hopkins (Ron), and Beverly Butterworth Blood (Dan); and a son William S. Blood, Jr. (Michelle); grandchildren Ken, Joel, Jessica, Jared, Scott, Sean, Teal, Cody, Billy, Jake, Erin, Audrey, Sophie, and Nathaniel; 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; a brother James Blood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas, and a sister, Katherine.
Visitation will be held at the Titusville First Methodist Church, 302 W. Walnut St., Titusville, on Tuesday, October 15th, from noon to 2 p.m., at which time a funeral service will be conducted with Rev. Tom Barnard officiating.
Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
