William O. “Bill” Beck, 82, a well-known resident of the Titusville and Hydetown area, passed away on Friday morning, July 25, 2025. Family and friends surrounded Bill throughout his life to the very end.
Bill was born on August 7, 1942, in Titusville, PA. He was the son of the late William J. and Garnet Marvin Beck. He married Pamela Davison on March 21, 1976, in Titusville, PA.
Bill attended St. Joseph’s Academy in Titusville. He entered the U.S. Army in 1960, serving as a missile mechanic at the defensive sites surrounding the Pittsburgh area. He concluded his military service in 1963 with the rank of Sargent.
Bill was an entrepreneur, first taking the reins of Ralph Sterling’s Esso station in Hydetown in his mid-twenties. He later bought Rittenhouse’s mini-market on Hydetown Road, where he expanded the gas station into tire sales. Later, he purchased The Oaks in Hydetown, which he and his wife Pam operated for many years. He was a guy who worked hard all his life with various other jobs, from paper boy and lawn mowing in his youth to truck driving and managing his various rental properties.
Bill was known by many friends in Titusville as “Elvis.” He grew up as a passionate fan of the King of Rock & Roll and emulated his style as a performer in local clubs and for charity events. In his youth, he took on the persona of a young James Dean, with his collar up and behind the wheel of the many, many cars he owned. Those cars included a ’32 T-bucket, a ’38 Ford pick-up truck with toilets for seats, to a long series of fast cars. His sense of humor and likable personality served him well as an entertainer and as a business owner. He recorded a 45 rpm single in the mid-seventies, “Gotta Find A Woman” b/w “She Still Rains On Me,” that played on local radio stations in Northwest Pennsylvania.
Bill was a member of the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion, the Titusville Elks Club, and the Titusville Moose Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Scott Beck of Hydetown and Dion Beck (Maria) of Titusville. His grandchildren include Kaitlyn, Alaska (Jake), Sierra, Wyatt, Daxton, and Vedder Beck. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Henry of Hydetown and his brother, Dan (Clare) of Rockville Centre, NY, brothers-in-law, Clifford Smith (Sue), Frank Davison (Connie), and sisters-in-law, Karen Thompson (Dave) and Teri Armstrong (Dale). Additionally, he is remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Billy.
Per his request, there will be no public visitation.
Family and friends may attend a graveside service at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at St. Catharines Cemetery chapel with Pastor Robert Hawk officiating. Full military rites will be observed.
To Bill’s many friends, “Elvis has left the building.”
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Hydetown Volunteer Fire Dept. 12638 Main Street Hydetown, PA 16328 or to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh 4401 Penn Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15224.
